CM12 ROM for Nexus 6! [Lollipop 5.0.2]

Check Out The Video Below!

The official CyanogenMod 12 (CM12) is out for the Nexus 6! CyanogenMod ROMS are the most widely used and available custom ROM for Android and for a good reason. CyanogenMod is supported for thousands of devices and help older legacy devices still be able to update to the latest version Android even when they don't officially get an update from the manufacture.

CM12 ROM for the Nexus 6 is the very first official build that was released today! The first build includes profiles like work, home, night, etc. These profiles can be each individually changed to your preference. CM12 also includes status bar brightness control, volume to wake up device, weather in the status bar, and options to change the way the navigation keys react to input, however I haven't been able to get that feature to work!

This ROM also includes AudioFX for advanced sound setting options and also Music app. The basics like WiFi, data, Bluetooth, calling, camera, etc all work great! With all the essential parts of CM12 working great you can use this ROM as a daily driver!

How to Install Custom ROMS on Nexus 6!

Check Out The Video Below!

You just rooted your Nexus 6 and you're ready to explore a whole new world with Android by installing custom ROMS on your Nexus 6! This process may seem a little bit intimidating, but don't worry just follow the simple step-by-step guide below and you will become a custom ROM flashing expert in no time!

What Is A Custom ROM?
A custom ROM is a modified version of Android with enhancements the developer of the ROM has made to improve the device. You may have heard of CyanogenMod or Paranoid Android ROMS that pack a TON of extra features. These features can consists of many things including removed bloatware, added extra features, themes, better battery life, improved device performance, anything!

Custom ROMS also let you upgrade to the latest version of Android even if it hasn't officially been released by the OEM. If you want to always want to be on the bleeding edge of Android software then installing customs ROMS in a must!

Things To Remember:
- You need to have a rooted Nexus 6 with TWRP/CWM Recovery installed, if you don't follow this guide: how to root Nexus 6.

- This will remove all data from your phone since we will need to do a factory reset before installing a new custom ROM! Backup any important information!
- You can only install custom ROMS that are specifically for the Nexus 6!!

Let's Get Started With Installing Custom ROMS On The Nexus 6

Don't forget, you need to have a rooted Nexus 6 with TWRP or CWM Recovery installed.

In this guide we're going to be using TWRP custom Recovery, but CWM is very similar in steps.

1. Download and transfer the custom ROM to your Nexus 6.

2. If the source from where the ROM was downloaded tells you to download Gapps (Google apps like Play Store, Gmail, etc) download and transfer the Gapps to your phone too.

Both the custom ROM and Gapps will end in a .zip file format, don't unzip it!

3. Now let's enter into Recovery Mode! Power off the Nexus 6 then press and hold the power button and volume down button until you see a green "Start" screen.

4. Keep pressing the volume down until you see "Recovery mode". Now press the power button. You will now enter into TWRP or CWM Recovery.

Step 5 is optional, but highly recommended!!
5. Select "Backup", make sure that "System", "Data", and "Boot" are selected then swipe at the bottom of the screen to start the backup. This is called a "Nandroid Backup", it will backup just about everything on your Nexus 6. This backup file will be located in "/TWRP/BACKUPS" folder.

You can reboot your phone and transfer that backup file to your computer so if something goes wrong during the custom ROM flash you can select "Restore" in TWRP and all your information will be restored.

6. On the TWRP homescreen select "Wipe" and swipe at the bottom of the screen.

7. Now select "Install" and locate the custom ROM you downloaded earlier. Swipe to confirm install.

8. Repeat step 7 except do it with Gapps if your ROM required you to flash Gapps too.

9. Now select "Reboot System" and the Nexus 6 will fully boot up to the new custom ROM. This boot up can take up to 5 minutes since we wiped the Nexus 6 and installed a brand new OS on our phone!

Congrats, you now know how to install custom ROMS on the Nexus 6!

FAQ:
Q: My phone is stuck in a bootloop.

How to Disable Forced Encryption on Rooted Nexus 6!

Check Out The View Below!

The Nexus 6 is a beast of a phone, but people are reporting that they are seeing the Nexus 6 perform slow from time to time. From a little bit of digging the Android community has found that the forced encryption on Android Lollipop is the main cause.

Another issue that I have had is that many custom ROMS and Kernels for the Nexus 6 are built from unencrypted custom ROMS, meaning the Nexus 6 has to be unencrypted before we can flash a custom ROM/Kernel that is also unencrypted.

Luckily for us bbedward from XDA has created custom boot IMG for the Nexus 6 so we can disable forced encryption on the Nexus 6 without too much effort!

Follow the step-by-step guide below to disable forced encryption on a rooted Nexus 6.

Note!
- This process will remove all data from your phone, backup any important information before continuing!!
- OTA updates will enable forced encryption again.

The Nexus 6 needs to be rooted, if it isn't follow this guide first: how to root Nexus 6

1. Go into Settings > About phone. Keep note of what the build number is since we're going to need it in step 2.

2. Download the correct "boot_noforceencrypt_XXXXXX.img" depending on your build number to your phone using the download links below.

Download boot_noforceencrypt_lrx210.img (Build Number LRX210)
Download boot_noforceencrypt_lrx22c.img (Build Number LRX22C)

3. Download Flashify app from the Play Store using the download link below.

Download Flashify from Play Store

4. Open up the Flashify app and tap on "Accept" and then a Superuser request pop up will show up. Tap on "GRANT".

5. Select "Boot Image" > "Choose a file" > "File explorer" > "sdcard". Now locate the "boot_noforceencrypt_XXXXXX.img" you downloaded in step 2. If you downloaded the file directly to your phone then look under the "Download" folder.

6. Select the "boot_noforceencrypt_XXXXXX.img" and select "Yup!".

7. Now tap on "Flash more" > select the more options menu at the top right corner of the app > and select "Reboot recovery".

8. We are going to enter into Recovery mode. Since the Nexus 6 is rooted you are mostly likely going to enter into TWRP Recovery.

Select "Wipe" > "Format Data" > type "yes" > "Go".
If you get "unable to mount /data" then reboot back into Recovery and do step 8 again.

9. Tap on the home button > "Reboot" > "System". Once the Nexus 6 fully boots up your phone will be unencrypted.

If you want to confirm that the forced encryption has been disabled you can go into Settings > Security > and under "Encryption" is will say "Encrypt phone". Tap on it and it will ask you if you want to start the encryption process.

FAQ:
Q: How do I encrypt my phone again?
A: Follow the guide above again, but use this boot IMG instead of the one linked in the guide

Stock Android 5.0.1 Lollipop ROM for Nexus 5! [Rooted]

Check Out The Video Below!

I always get asked if you need to unroot your phone to update to the latest Android version, the simple answer is no. You don't need to unroot your phone just to update to the latest version. The easier and my reccomended way is to just flash the latest stock ROM for the Nexus 5, in this case, 5.0.1 Lollipop.

This stock ROM is exactly the same as the official OTA update from Google with everything working just great! Not only that, but you also get to keep your custom Recovery and root (just flash SuperSU after the ROM). WiFi, data, bluetooth, camera, etc all work great!

This is the best way to update to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop for the Nexus 5 while still staying rooted!

Download stock Android 5.0.1 Lollipop ROM for the Nexus 5 using the download links below!

Remember to flash SuperSU in Recovery Mode after the ROM or you will not be able to use root apps!

How to Install Flash Player on Android Lollipop!

Check Out The Video Below

While more and more sites are starting to use HTML5 instead of Flash Player to display media content there are still a lot of websites that require you to have Flash Player installed on your Android device to access parts of the site. Luckily for us Android Lollipop users we can easily without root install Flash Player on our Android device!

This method on installing Flash Player on Android Lollipop works pretty darn well since I have tried it over the past few days on my Lollipop Nexus 6 and haven't ran into any issues! This method should also work on older Android versions like KitKat and Jellybean, but will definitely work on Lollipop devices!

Some of you may have heard that Dolphin Browser now natively supports Flash Player, but the method that Dolphin Browser uses to get Flash Player onto your Android device is an older more outdated version of Flash Player. This method will give you better performance and stability since it's based off a more optimized version of Flash Player. Also you cannot use any browser with this Flash Player method, you must use Dolphin Browser since not all browsers support plugins!

Follow the step-by-step guide below to install Flash Player on Android Lollipop.

1. Go into Settings > Security > enable "Unknown sources".

2. Download KitKat.Adobe.Flash.Player.11.1.apk to your phone using the download link below.

I am aware that the file is meant for KitKat, don't worry about this since it works just fine on Lollipop too!

Download KitKat.Adobe.Flash.Player.11.1.apk

3. In your status bar you should see "KitKat.Adobe.Flash.Player.11.1.apk Download complete". Tap on it and select "Install" > "Done".

4. Now download Dolphin Browser from the Play Store using the download link below.

Download Dolphin Browser

5. Open up Dolphin Browser and swipe through the setup screen.

6. Tap on the dolphin at the bottom of the screen and navigate to Settings > Web content > Flash player > and select "Always on".

7. You're are done! You have installed Flash Player on Android and setup Dolphin browser to be Flash Player ready!

You can check to see if Flash Player is working properly on your Lollipop device by going to these websites (links below) on your Lollipop device. Remember that you MUST use Dolphin Browser if you're planning on using Flash Player.

Adobe Flash Player - You will see a "F" box jumping around.
UltraSounds - You will see a blue bar going up and down through the text "UltraSounds".

Rastapop ROM for Nexus 6!

Check Out The Video Below!

Rastapop ROM is a popular ROM and is mainly known to support Nexus devices. The developer makes rock solid ROMS that are very stable. The Rastapop ROM for the Nexus 6 is very stable since it's based off of AOSP and not necessarily based off of something unofficial.

This ROM doesn't include every single feature possible, but includes more minimal features that are helpful on daily basis. Some Rastapop features include controlling the brightness by sliding the status bar with your finger, advanced boot menu, battery percent in the status bar, and a few others!

A simple, but favorite feature of mine that the developer added was the clear recent apps options. This feature is a one tap feature that clears any recent apps all in one go! It a big time saver when you don't need to individually clear out one app at a time.

Overall, Rastapop ROM is a solid ROM that is a very solid for anyone who is looking into getting started in using custom ROMS. This ROM doesn't overwhelm the beginner user with too many features, but the features that are included are very useful for anyone!

How To Add Double Tap To Wake on Rooted Nexus 6!

Check Out The Video Below!

The double tap to wake feature on the LG G3 was a great choice and a very handy feature, I personally use it everyday. Luckily for anyone who owns a Nexus 6 can now get the same great feature on their own device!

If you didn't know, some code within the Nexus 6 software suggested that the double tap to wake feature was going to be added, but at this point they still haven't enabled this feature even though all the necessary parts are ready to go!

Unfortunately this double tap to wake feature isn't as responsive as the one that LG has made. If you want the double tap to wake feature to work consistently on the Nexus 6 then do not double tap too quickly or it will not work, with a little bit of practice you'll be set!

Remember your Nexus 6 MUST be rooted, if it isn't follow this root guide first!

Follow the step-by-step guide below to enable double tap to wake on the Nexus 6!

1. Go into Settings > Security > and enable "Unknown sources".

2. Download N6DoubleTapWake.v1.2.apk using the download link below.
Download N6DoubleTapWake.v1.2.apk

3. Navigate to where it was saved using a file manager app. By default it will be saved in the "Download" folder.

4. Tap on N6DoubleTapWake.v1.2.apk, choose "INSTALL", and lastly select "OPEN".

5. Immediately after opening the app you will get a Superuser request, select "GRANT".

6. The app should automatically activate the double tap, but if is doesn't simply tap on "ACTIVATE" and you're done!

It's that simple! Your Nexus 6 now has double tap to wake, enjoy! Remember not to double tap too quickly or it won't work!
